Tokyo Electron Device Expands Business Globally with Advanced Secure Digital (SD Memory / SDIO Card) Controller TechnologyTokyo Electron Device Licenses Advanced SD/SDIO Host and Card-Side Controllers To Enable High-Performance SD Memory / SDIO Card Devices Santa Clara, CA., January 4, 2006 – Tokyo Electron Device, Ltd. (TED) today announced it is expanding business worldwide, and is delivering advanced Secure Digital (SD)/Secure Digital Input/Output (SDIO) controller technology to enable high performance SD Memory / SDIO Card devices. SD Memory / SDIO Card has quickly become the de facto worldwide interface choice for a wide range of consumer applications. “TED has a great track record of successfully delivering leading-edge technologies to the Japanese market,” said Toshiaki Sunagawa, president and representative director of the company. “The worldwide semiconductor industry is leading the way in innovating new products, and the timing is right for TED to bring its innovations to new customers in North America, Europe and other regions of Asia.” The first products available from TED are SD/SDIO Host and Card-side controller intellectual property (IP), which the company has been licensing to major Japanese semiconductor companies. Marketed under the brand name “inrevium,” the SD/SDIO Controller IP is compliant with the newest standard specifications and can reach the maximum throughput of more than 20MByte/sec, which makes it the highest performing technology available in the industry. The inrevium TE4391/4392 is a Host controller IP that is fully compliant with the SD Host Standard Specification Version 2.0 (currently in draft), which supports Advanced Direct Memory Access (DMA) for highest throughput. The Host controller IP also supports the newest SD Physical 1.10, SDIO Card Specification 1.20 (currently in draft), MMC 4.0 and CE-ATA 1.1. Because of its selectable CPU interfaces (General 32 bit and AMBA2.0), the TE4391/4392 Host Controller IP is ideally suited for multimedia system-on-a-chip designs for mobile computing devices, such as cellular phones, digital cameras and portable media players. The inrevium TE4353 is a Card-side controller IP that is fully compliant with the SDIO Card Specification Version 1.20 (currently in draft). It supports 50MHz clock speed and can reach a maximum throughput of more than 20MByte/sec. The TE4353 Card-side Controller IP is ideally suited for SDIO Card devices/modules, such as WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and UWB. Both the Host and Card-side controller IP is available today. TED also provides a complete development solution to enable a rapid design process for each customer, which includes a sample firmware, an evaluation board and a simulation environment. “We are an original member of the SD Association, and our goal is always to deliver to our customers the highest-quality SD Memory / SDIO Card controller technology based on the newest standards,” said Jim Otani, engineering manager for the inrevium product group of TED. As an executive member of the SD Association, TED will be showing its products at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show this week in the SD Association booth #9836, in the Las Vegas Convention Center. About Tokyo Electron Device Tokyo Electron Device is an affiliate of Tokyo Electron Limited, one of the world’s leading semiconductor manufacturing equipment suppliers. TED has sold its technology inside Japan about 40 years, and now the company is applying its knowledge, technology and service capability to establish its inrevium product line in the global industrial market. TED has established an office in Santa Clara, California to support its US customers. For more information on inrevium products, visit the website at www.inrevium.jp/eng/.
