Xilinx And 4i2i Demonstrate H.264/AVC High Profile Decoder In An FPGAXilinx Virtex-4 FPGAs enable time-to-market and performance advantages for wide range of video processing applications LAS VEGAS, April 24, 2006 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), and 4i2i, a world-leading provider of hardware and software advanced video and audio coding technologies, today announced one of the world’s first demonstration of an FPGA-based H.264/AVC high profile real-time video decoder at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference, April 24-27, 2006 in Las Vegas, Xilinx booth #C10515. Implemented on a single Xilinx Virtex™-4 FPGA, and a licensable intellectual property (IP) core developed by 4i2i, the high profile decoder provides a highly-integrated, cost-effective solution ideally suited for a wide variety of video-based broadcast, conferencing and surveillance products, pa rticularly applications based on the emerging Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD technologies. “The high-performance capabilities provided by the Virtex-4 device made Xilinx the obvious choice for collaboration as it provided the ideal platform to implement the highly complex algorithms required for real-time H.264 decoding,” said Martyn Riley, managing director and CEO of 4i2i. “The flexibility of Xilinx FPGAs allowed 4i2i to develop fully productized intellectual property which fits in a single FPGA device.” “In order to meet the requirements placed on H.264/AVC encoders in today’s markets, it is important to choose the correct hardware platform. Xilinx FPGAs offer high performance with the high-speed video and networking interfaces needed to develop integrated video systems with exceptional time-to-market advantages,” said Mark Hoopes, senior manager of Broadcast and Consumer Vertical Marketing at Xilinx.
