Triscend Licenses ARM® Core for Configurable System-on-ChipsCAMBRIDGE, UK - Aug. 28, 2000 -- ARM [(LSE:ARM); (Nasdaq:ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor solutions, today announced that Triscend has licensed the ARM7TDMI-S[tm] synthesizable RISC microprocessor core. This license will enable Triscend, which is currently using an ARM7TDMI processor core from Sharp for its A7[tm] family of Configurable System-on-Chip (CSoC) devices, to use a synthesizable design flow to accelerate the adoption of leading process geometries for next-generation ARM Powered[tm] CSoC products. "Winning communications companies are already adopting our CSoC technology to improve their time-to-market," said Stanley Yang, president and CEO of Triscend. "By combining our technology with the synthesizable ARM core, we can further accelerate our delivery of advanced ARM core-based CSoC solutions to our customers." A Configurable System-on-Chip is a single-chip combination of an industry-standard microprocessor, embedded programmable logic, memory and a dedicated system bus. Triscend CSoC devices provide user-configurability and a high degree of system-level integration, making them particularly ideal for communications designs, which need significant design flexibility and fast time-to-market. Triscend's CSoC solution has been successfully proven in the 8-bit E5 CSoC family, which has been shipping for more than a year. "As the industry's leading 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solution, ARM has experienced considerable success in the ASIC market," said Reynette Au, vice president of Worldwide Marketing for ARM. "The combination of the Triscend CSoC device's user configurability and ARM's high-performance, low-power core will introduce the standard products market to a new generation of ARM Powered solutions." ARM processors range in performance from 60 MHz (54 MIPS) to 1 GHz (1200+ MIPS). The cores are noted for performance, small die size, low power consumption, tight code density, and multiple supply sources. Instruction set compatibility between processor families promotes design reuse and reduces software development time. ARM offers full system-on-chip solutions including processor cores, peripheral intellectual property, development tools, application software, EDA tools and design services. The ARM architecture is well supported by semiconductor and system manufacturers, real-time operating system providers, third-party tool chain developers, application software providers and ARM design centers.
