Coreum Technology, Inc. Licenses TriMedia[tm] TM32[tm] VLIW Processor CoreCoreum and TriMedia also cross-licenses each other's system-on-chip peripherals.SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--August 14, 2000-- Coreum Technology, Inc., a Silicon Valley based company specializing in system-on-chip (SOC) design and supply, today announced that it has licensed the TM32 VLIW processor core from TriMedia Technologies (TriMedia), the industry's leading provider of VLIW microprocessor core intellectual property (IP). Other licensees of this core include Philips Electronics and Sony Corporation. Coreum and TriMedia also announced today that they have signed a cross-license agreement for each other's system-on-chip (SOC) peripherals IP. Fuad Abu Nofal, President and CEO of Coreum Technology, Inc., said, "The TM32 VLIW processor core is ideal for multimedia and networking application as it brings an unbeatable combination of performance and flexibility along with a comprehensive base of development tools and application software." Cees Hartgring, President and CEO of TriMedia Technologies, Inc., said, "Coreum has great system-on-a-chip design technology and expertise, plus a great understanding of TriMedia's technology. Coreum has been involved in the design and development of the TM32 core over the last two years. I'm very happy that Coreum chose to include the TriMedia processor core in their products. The SOC peripherals cross-licensing agreement in addition gives TriMedia and its licensees access to Coreum's SOC peripherals IP, thus expanding the TriMedia SOC peripherals offering to about 25 modules." About System-on-Chip System-on-Chip technology enables multiple major functions to be integrated on to a single chip. The result is higher performance at much lower system cost. Extensive use is made of pre-designed building blocks, thus reducing time to market. The SOC is typically custom designed for a single application, underscoring the need for a fast and efficient design methodology. Proven VLIW Cores The TriMedia 32bit embedded processor cores, of which the TM32 is the latest implementation, have served as the computational heart for a series of embedded processor products. These cores are designed for easy, seamless integration into system-on-a-chip SOC products and support a standard real-time operating system (RTOS). The TriMedia VLIW (very long instruction word) architecture is ideally suited for performance-hungry media processing tasks, such as encoding/decoding MPEG video streams, encoding/decoding multi-channel audio streams, or demultiplexing/multiplexing broadcast transport streams, for example. The architecture processes up to five operations in every clock cycle, yet eliminates the costly control logic typical of superscalar processors. About TriMedia Technologies TriMedia Technologies, Inc., a new Silicon Valley-based company, develops and licenses VLIW (very-long instruction word) processor technology used in a broad range of consumer digital video and networking appliances. TriMedia technology is already used in digital television receivers, advanced set-top boxes, video editing systems, digital video recorders, video phones, and home networking products. The company was established with the initial backing of two leaders in consumer electronics, Royal Philips Electronics and Sony. The company anticipates investments from additional leading consumer electronics and semiconductor companies. Please visit the company's website: www.trimediatechnologies.com.
