ATMOS and MOSAID build on DRAM compiler relationship
ATMOS and MOSAID build on DRAM compiler relationshipOTTAWA, Ontario, Canada - August 10, 2000 - ATMOS Corporation and MOSAID Technologies Incorporated (TSE: MSD) today announced an agreement to broaden their current strategic relationship. Under this agreement, ATMOS will utilize MOSAID's DRAM architecture and proven circuit technology to develop its future generations of DRAM compilers. The agreement also provides MOSAID with a 19.9% equity stake in ATMOS, a license for its use of the ATMOS compilers, and royalties based on the licensed use of its intellectual property. In December 1999, the two companies announced a working relationship to develop the world's first commercially available embedded DRAM memory compiler tool. The product, launched in June, was developed by ATMOS using MOSAID-licensed DRAM technology, and offers customers a dramatic improvement in time-to-market for system-on-a-chip development. The compiler can generate a wide range of DRAM configurations, allowing the designer to tune each cell for speed, power, and area. MOSAID is the first fabless semiconductor company to use the product. "Our previous collaboration ensured that the first ATMOS DRAM compiler project was a success, and we are very pleased to strengthen this relationship in two dimensions," said Dr. C. Paul Slaby, President and CEO of ATMOS Corporation. "First, by broadening our access to MOSAID's unique intellectual property, enabling us to develop new types of DRAM compilers more rapidly; and second, by underpinning our relationship through this investment in ATMOS. We believe that MOSAID's contributions at the Board level and at the working level will give us a clear advantage over our competitors as we continue to develop our business." "This agreement addresses our strategic objectives in several ways," said Dan Mathers, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of MOSAID's Semiconductor Division. "It further leverages the value of our memory intellectual property assets; it gives us a significant time to market advantage with our networking chips by offering us continuing use of ATMOS' leading DRAM compiler technology; and it provides us with a meaningful equity stake in a promising embedded memory products company."
