Olympus Purchases Moore Microprocessor Patent(TM) Portfolio License
Olympus Becomes Eighth Major System Manufacturer This Year to Purchase Rights to Use Fundamental MMP Portfolio Technologies
CUPERTINO, Calif.--Sept. 1, 2006--Alliacense today disclosed that Olympus Corporation has purchased a Moore Microprocessor Patent(TM) (MMP) Portfolio license. Olympus follows in the footsteps of HP, Casio, Fujitsu, Sony, Nikon, Seiko Epson and Pentax, all of whom purchased an MMP license from The TPL Group this year. "We welcome Olympus to our distinguished roster of MMP Portfolio licensees," said Mac Leckrone, Alliacense president. "While Olympus is widely known for its outstanding line of digital cameras and precision imaging products, it has also emerged as one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-speed chemistry analyzers for medical laboratories." He noted that fundamental MMP technologies are being widely used in modern digital medical products. With Olympus becoming the eighth system manufacturer to purchase an MMP license in 2006, Leckrone confirmed that MMP licensing rates can be expected to increase according to plan as "first-mover" MMP Portfolio licensing berths continue to be rapidly captured by global leaders. "While we encourage all companies to contact us regarding MMP Portfolio Licensing opportunities, our licensing teams continue to focus on global leaders whose management is empowered to make quick strategic business decisions," he added. The MMP Portfolio patents, filed by The TPL Group in the 1980s, cover techniques that enable higher performance and lower cost designs, and are fundamental to consumer and commercial digital systems ranging from DVD players, cell phones and portable music players to communications infrastructure, medical equipment and automobiles. About the MMP Portfolio Named after legendary inventor Charles "Chuck" Moore, the MMP Portfolio includes seven US patents as well as their European and Japanese counterparts fundamental to the design of modern microprocessors, microcontrollers and system-on-chip devices. Developed in a joint venture between the TPL Group and Moore, the MMP Portfolio today is jointly owned by privately held TPL Group and publicly held Patriot Scientific Corporation (PTSC.OB).
