Freescale's ARM9-based i.MX Applications Processor Selected for Sony's mylo(TM)i.MX21 Delivers High Performance Multimedia Functionality and Long Battery Life for New Mobile Communications Device TOKYO--Nov. 20, 2006--The Freescale Semiconductor i.MX21 applications processor provides the multimedia functionality for Sony's new mobile entertainment device -- the mylo(TM) Personal Communicator. The i.MX21 multimedia applications processor contributes to the advanced multimedia functionality of the Sony mylo personal communicator including its voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone communication. The mylo is a portable communication device with a full keyboard in a small form factor. It allows users to access the Internet via wireless LAN (WLAN) or Wi-Fi hotspots enabling web browsing, instant messaging and voice calls. The i.MX21 processor provides high-performance video and graphics capabilities including MPEG-4 hardware encoding and decoding. Additionally, the i.MX21's power management features help to ensure low power consumption, enabling the device to play videos, display high-resolution images and be connected to the Internet for hours on a single battery charge.
