Avalon Microelectronics Announces Availability of 40G SONET/SDH Framer/Mapper/Pointer ProcessorSt. John’s, NL, Canada – Mar. 19, 2007 – Avalon Microelectronics today announced the availability of its Athabasca product – the first commercially available FPGA-based integrated SFI-5 core and 40G SONET/SDH framer / pointer processor. The Athabasca is ideally suited for FPGA-based designs and, as a standard product, can greatly reduce development time and costs for customers developing SONET/SDH systems. The Core adds to a growing family of 40G IP product offerings from Avalon. The Athabasca IP core performs framing and byte alignment, overhead processing, pointer processing and path overhead processing for use in applications such as line cards and test equipment. A channelized version of the product is also under development. The product can be modified per customer requirements. “Avalon is committed to bringing solutions to customers rather than simply off-the-shelf IP” said Wally Haas, Director of Engineering at Avalon. Avalon’s IP can be customized, and with other IP products, can bring customers a complete FPGA–based solution for developing products such as add-drop multiplexers (ADMs), time division multiplexers (TDMs), optical cross-connects, high end routers, and metro Ethernet products. Hardware validated IP Cores are made available from Avalon under a variety of flexible licensing terms. The Company supports its IP with field support, full documentation and a comprehensive suite of verification files and software drivers. Pricing and Availability Avalon’s Athabasca can be targeted at a variety of FPGA platforms. Please contact Avalon for pricing. For technical information on the Athabasca, download the product brief.
