Dramatic Area and Power Saving, Faraday miniLib Adopted by Afatech for Digital TV IC Designs
Faraday’s miniLib™ helps Afa Technologies hit chip size and power consumption targets with matured process node
Hsinchu, Taiwan -- April 19, 2007 -- Faraday Technology (TAIEX: 3035), a leading ASIC and IP provider, today announced that Afa Technologies, Inc., a renowned fabless IC design house focusing on DTV and communication fields, has chosen Faraday’s miniLib™ cell library in developing digital TV ICs. The miniLib™ cell Library, comprised of over 300 standard cells and 100 plus functions, is designed specifically for applications requiring small footprint and low power consumption. “To support low cost and low power requirements of today’s consumer electronics applications, Faraday’s miniLib™ is a perfect solution,” said Philip Sun, Executive Vice President at Afatech. “We are glad to cooperate with Faraday on this project and we appreciate their dedicated technical support and service in full spectrum, which is also a key to our on-time product delivery. We expect to work together for our next product development,” added Sun. “In addition to developing cutting-edge cell libraries for 65 and 45nm processes, Faraday has been spending considerable efforts on improving speed, density and reducing power consumption for matured technologies,” said Hsin Wang, Vice President of IP Business and Technology at Faraday. “We are very pleased that Faraday’s miniLib™ cell library is adopted by Afa Technologies, a DTV IC market leader, which also denotes a milestone for our IP market penetration into the hottest fields. Furthermore, with our highly competitive miniLib™ solutions, we are confident to see more successful engagements in the near future.” About Faraday’s miniLib™ Cell Library Faraday’s miniLib™ cell library uses a series of new architectures that significantly reduce power while dramatically improve density and yield. The raw gate density at UMC 0.18um process is 145K/mm2, 300K/mm2 for UMC 0.13um process, and 500K/mm2 for UMC 90nm process. It is a high-density cell library with 20~30% reduction in core area and power consumption when compared with other standard cell libraries. The miniLib™ cell libraries are low cost cell library solution in Faraday’s miniIP™ platform. The miniIP™ platform also includes general purpose I/O solution (miniIO™), high-density diffusion programmable ROM (miniROM™), essential component PLL (miniPLL™), and Pad-Over-Circuit (POC™) technology which moves the bonding pads above the I/O cells to save chip cost.
