Silicon Image Intellectual Property Business Expands: HDMI Core IP Paired with PHY Semiconductors Solidifies Silicon Image's Industry LeadershipSUNNYVALE, Calif., May 29, 2007 — Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ: SIMG), a leader in semiconductors for the secure storage, distribution and presentation of high-definition content, today announced that by combining its digital implementations of the High-Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI) intellectual property (IP) cores with its HDMI analog physical layer (PHY) semiconductors, the company has begun to achieve significant market success, having already sold approximately four million HDMI PHY semiconductors. Silicon Image HDMI digital IP Cores embedded in SoCs (system-on-a-chip) combined with the external VastLane™ SiI9002 and SiI9003 PHY semiconductors offer an attractive option for consumer electronics manufacturers, providing quick time-to-market with lower costs achieved through greater integration. Silicon Image offers the broadest portfolio of HDMI solutions available on the market, giving integrated circuit (IC) designers and OEMs flexibility to select between HDMI semiconductors or IP cores that best suit their time-to-market, packaging, cost or integration design needs. Silicon Image’s comprehensive solutions range from standalone HDMI transmitter and receiver semiconductors, to full integrated HDMI cores (digital and analog), to the combination of HDMI digital IP paired with the companion PHY semiconductor. Sigma Designs, a leader in digital media processors for consumer electronics products, integrated Silicon Image’s digital IP core into its SMP8630 series media processors. These advanced high definition media processors have become a defacto standard for the current generation of Internet Protocol TV set-top boxes and Blu-ray Disc players. The acquisition enhances and accelerates the expansion of Silicon Image’s system-on-chip (SoC) design capabilities, and strengthens the company’s position as the leading provider of semiconductor IP solutions for high-definition multimedia and data storage applications.
