IP business model 'broken,' says exec
Brian Fuller, EE Times
(06/08/2007 4:05 PM EDT) SAN DIEGO — The IP business is "broken" and needs consolidation to better serve customers, according to Mike Kaskowitz, vice president of semiconductor IP at Mosaid Technologies Inc. "From an IP standpoint, we have a broken ecosystem," Kaskowitz said. "It's very expensive to develop IP, yet the barrier to entry for a nonqualified provider...is pretty low. So the valuations are being established by these low-end providers as opposed to what it truly takes to make quality IP." Kaskowitz, a former Mentor Graphics and VSIA executive, discussed Mosaid's outlook and the industry's prospects in a video interview (below) from the floor of the 44th Design Automation Conference here.
