Synopsys' DesignWare IP Passes Certified Wireless USB Testing From USB-IF
Certified Wireless USB Logo Increases Customer Confidence in IP Compatibility and Interoperability
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Nov. 26, 2007 -- Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS - News), a world leader in software and IP for semiconductor design and manufacturing, today announced that Synopsys' DesignWare® Wireless USB Device IP has passed the USB Implementers Forum's (USB-IF) Certified Wireless USB Testing and earned the certification logo. Certification helps ensure interoperability with other Wireless USB enabled products in the market, thus minimizing risk and reducing time-to-market for designers integrating Wireless USB interfaces into their system-on-chips. This most recent certification reinforces Synopsys' leadership position in providing users with IP that is interoperable and low-risk. The DesignWare Wireless USB Device IP is designed to the WiMedia Alliance Ultra-wideband (UWB) Common Radio Platform and includes a WiMedia MAC-PHY interface for interoperability with WiMedia UWB PHYs such as those from Alereon and Realtek. To improve power conservation in next-generation portable electronics applications, the DesignWare Wireless USB Device IP provides optimized power management functions with dual power rails. This allows the design to shut down power to sections that are not in use, thus lowering overall power consumption. In order to satisfy IP designers' complete protocol requirements, Synopsys offers a comprehensive Wireless USB IP portfolio including the device, WHCI host and dual-role device. "It is great to see companies like Synopsys, which have been longtime supporters of USB technologies, be among the first to achieve Wireless USB certification for their DesignWare Wireless USB Device IP," said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF president. "The availability of certified IP is an important milestone in the industry and offers solutions for companies looking to develop high quality, interoperable products and get them to market quickly." "Our customers continually tell us that high quality and interoperability are key elements in helping them achieve product success and reduce time-to-market," said John Koeter, group director for IP Marketing at Synopsys. "Certification is a very important part of the interoperability process, which is why we continue to provide designers with the most certified USB IP in the world. As the Certified Wireless USB standard continues to mature, designers can depend on Synopsys to provide them with this critical IP." Synopsys is a technical contributor to the Certified Wireless USB Specification. For more information on the latest in USB go to http://synopsysoc.org/tousbornottousb/index.php.
