Chipidea Achieves Certification for USB High-Speed PHY IP on Chartered’s 90nm and 65nm Customer-ready TechnologiesUpdate: MIPS Technologies Acquires Chipidea (August 27, 2007) Industry's Widest Portfolio of Silicon-Proven USB IP Speeds Time-to-market for Portable Computing Device ManufacturersPORTO, Portugal - Dec. 4, 2007 - Chipidea, the Analog Business Group of MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), today announced that its USB high-speed physical layer (PHY) IP has been certified on 65nm and 90nm process technologies available from Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. Compliant with the USB 2.0 standard and certified by independent certification authority USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), Chipidea's USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) PHY cores are part of the industry's broadest portfolio of USB high-speed PHY IP that is silicon-proven and certified in 0.18um, 0.13um, 90nm and 65nm on Chartered's customer-ready foundry solutions. Chipidea's USB IP can help speed time-to-market for customers designing USB and the USB OTG Supplement into portable computing devices such as handhelds, cell phones, mass storage devices and digital cameras. The market for these devices is expanding rapidly. According to technology market research firm In-Stat, more than two billion USB-enabled devices shipped worldwide in 2006, and the firm predicts annual shipment growth of 12.3% through 2011. "We are working with several customers who are integrating Chipidea's USB solutions into their high-speed connectivity products, reflecting both market demand and customer confidence in Chipidea's IP," said Walter Ng, senior director of platform alliances for Chartered. "Chipidea has a solid track record in on-time delivery and first-pass silicon success for its IP solutions, and the company's USB high-speed PHY products meet our stringent IP quality guidelines for the 65nm nominal and 90nm low-power Common Platform technology processes available to Chartered customers." "Certification of our PHYs on Chartered's 65nm and 90nm processes by the USB-IF builds on our strategy to be the first in the market to offer silicon-proven IP across today's most advanced technology nodes," said Celio Albuquerque, director of Chipidea's Physical Solutions Division. "Customers can leverage our USB IP solutions, including PHYs and controllers, to get to market quickly at the lowest cost and with the fastest time to integration." Chipidea's CI12323cn (USB 2.0 OTG PHY) is silicon-proven as part of Chartered's Common Platform solution in the 65nm nominal process, and the CI12343cm (USB 2.0 OTG PHY) is likewise silicon-proven in the 90nm low-power process. The cores are available in multiple process flavors. About Chipidea Chipidea Microelectrónica S.A., the Analog Business Group of MIPS Technologies, Inc.
