VeriSilicon Introduces VZ.AudioHD: A Complete, Licensable Audio Solution for Exploding High Definition Market
The VZ.AudioHD platform currently includes more than 15 ultra-efficient, pre-optimized software modules including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTS Digital Surround, and DTS-HD Hi-Res. VZ.AudioHD platform requires on average 40% less MHz than solutions from other vendors, which significantly reduces power consumption of the system. As a result, where other processor solutions would require a multi-core solution for a high definition audio application, the VZ.AudioHD platform only needs a single ZSP800 to implement all the required audio standards. The ZSP800 extends the successful ZSP product line of G1 and G2 processors from VeriSilicon and introduces the ZSP G3 processor family. The high precision, eight stage ZSP800 processor can issue up to four 16/32-bit instructions per cycle across a data path that includes six ALUs and a Quad-MAC, and achieves around 450MHz using 65nm process technology. “We have been very happy with the ZSP G1 and G2 families of processor cores and have deployed them across a wide range of our set-top box and DVD product lines,” said Dan Marotta, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom’s Broadband Communications Group. “As our audio product requirements have dramatically grown, so have our performance needs. After studying several other options, it was an easy decision to select ZSP800 for our next generation products. The ZSP800 provides a high performance solution that will allow us to address our increasing processing needs with one core. Another benefit is the ZSP800's software compatibility with previous ZSP architectures, which will allow us to reuse our existing code base without any modifications.” “The VZ.AudioHD platform introduction represents yet another example of VeriSilicon's commitment towards providing focused, leading edge high definition audio solutions to enable our customers to develop superior products at reduced risk, development time and cost,” said Dr. Wayne Dai, Chairman, President, and CEO of VeriSilicon. “In addition to providing the licensable HD audio platforms, we also offer the platform based SoC solutions and ASIC turn key services from specification to chip so that our customers can leverage our silicon implementation and manufacturing expertise.” CES Show Details VeriSilicon will be demonstrating a number of its ZSP technologies and high definition audio software solutions at the upcoming CES Show on January 9th 2008. In addition to ZSP-based HD-Audio demonstrations, VeriSilicon will be showcasing its voice and video platforms as well as a number of available ZSP based consumer devices. Availability The VZ.AudioHD comprised of ZSP800, audio software module suite, and system software is currently available as a licensable platform from VeriSilicon or as a part of its ASIC services. About VeriSilicon Founded in 2001, VeriSilicon Holdings Co., Ltd. ("VeriSilicon") is a fast growing IC (integrated circuit) design foundry providing custom solutions and SoC (System-on-A-Chip) turn key services. VeriSilicon has an extensive track record of accelerating customer designs from initial specification to silicon, achieving first silicon success -- on time and on spec -- and taking customer silicon through volume production, utilizing its partner network of leading wafer foundries and assembly and test companies in Asia Pacific. In addition to its flexible engagement model, superior supply chain management, and strong service culture, VeriSilicon's market leading licensable digital signal processing (ZSP®) cores and star IP based SoC platforms, along with value-added mixed signal IP portfolio, are the key differentiators for its success in a broad range of application markets, including multimedia, voice and wireless communications. VeriSilicon's global customer base of market leading multinationals and fabless start-up companies benefit from shorter development cycles, reduced cost of ownership, and economies of scale.
