Motorola forms embedded solutions group to focus on distributors
Motorola forms embedded solutions group to focus on distributors The first major move under new sector president Fred Tucker came Tuesday when Motorola Inc.'s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS) unveiled the Standard Embedded Solutions Group (SESG). The new group will provide service to distributors and emerging accounts for its portfolio of embedded processors. "The formation of SESG will enable us to better use our resources to improve relationships with our customers and give us a broader market reach with the DigitalDNA processor cores available for embedded designs," Tucker said. Mario Rivas, a Motorola corporate vice president, has been named general manager of the new Group. Rivas most recently was general manager of SPS' Wireless Subscriber Systems Group (WSSG). Roger Kung, who previously led the development of SPS' strategic business model, was named general manager of WSSG. The SESG will be based in Austin, Texas, and will be initially comprised of teams from standard product DSP, micr ocontroller, and display units. It has two IC design centers under its direction and is responsible for the licensing of the SPS architectures "We wanted to build greater intimacy with our established accounts and at the same time seed our channel market accounts with our architecture and reference platforms," Tucker said. Tucker was named SPS president earlier this month after former sector president Hector Ruiz left to take the position of president and chief executive at Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif.
