Freescale Offers Customization Across SoC Platforms to Help Customers Streamline Unique Product Development
Customers Can Choose from Products Based on ColdFire® Controllers, Power Architecture® Processors or ARM® Cores to Help Simplify and Accelerate SoC Design
BRUSSELS, Belgium -- September 30, 2008 -- To address the market need for highly customized devices, Freescale Semiconductor has launched a Customer Specific Products (CSP) business that provides custom system-on-chip (SoC) solutions based on its industry-leading SoC platforms – Power Architecture® processors, ColdFire® controllers and i.MX platforms based on ARM® technology. Freescale is the only company in the industry to have three distinct processor platforms with proven technologies spanning high performance, low power, multimedia acceleration and embedded control. “System manufacturers are consolidating silicon suppliers and looking for ways to reduce cost, streamline development and accelerate time to market,” said Dhiraj Handa, director and general manager of Freescale’s Customer Specific Products business. “Freescale delivers these benefits by combining customer and third party technology with our own broad portfolio of proven Intellectual Property (IP) blocks, SoC platforms and product development eco-system and manufacturing expertise while adhering to high quality standards. Freescale’s broad portfolio of offerings provides customers with an opportunity to create unique solutions and reduce their bill of materials through technology integration or removal. Customers who already use Freescale products are able to further reduce development costs through easy migration to next-generation system designs and reuse of software investments. Freescale’s processor platforms deliver optimal functionality and are scalable across a variety of end-products such as consumer hand-held devices, printing and imaging applications, home and enterprise networking solutions, wired and wireless infrastructure, SMB gateways, telematics systems and industrial control applications. Freescale offers a range of flexible SoC customization options. With Freescale’s proven and scalable SoC platforms based on ARM core, Power Architecture and ColdFire microcontroller architectures, designers can quickly add or remove functional blocks without having to redesign the entire platform. Customer and third party technology can be integrated into the SoC platforms using a number of industry-standard bus structures along with custom combinations of proven system blocks that can be mixed and matched to suit customer-specific application requirements. In addition, Freescale can implement the design from a delivered specification or the customer can deliver their portion of the technology as verified RTL, verified gates or verified layout for integration with the Freescale SoC platform. Strong program management from Freescale and collaboration with customer engineering teams helps to ensure exceptional project execution. The CSP business makes the following products, manufacturing capabilities and services available to OEMs and fabless semiconductor companies:
