ThreadX® Support for Advancel Logic's TinyJ™ Processor

San Diego, California, September 28, 1999 -- Express Logic today announced ThreadX support for Advancel Logic Corporation's TinyJ™ 32-bit family of Java™ processors that execute both Java bytecodes and native RISC instructions. Express Logic's ThreadX provides real-time embedded TinyJ developers with the most technically advanced multitasking solution on the market today. Its picokernel™ design results in very high-performance and extremely small memory requirements - requiring less than 4Kbytes for minimal usage. ThreadX also provides TinyJ applications with significant technical innovations including extremely fast software timers and a mechanism to help reduce context switching called preemption-threshold™.

Advancel's TinyJ microprocessor family enables system designers to add Java technology functionality without any loss of performance. TinyJ's bi-lingual RISC processor core provides and optimum price/performance solution for embedded applications by executing both Java bytecodes and native RISC instructions in hardware. As for size, the TinyJ cores are very small, roughly 35K gates, and have very low-power requirements making them ideal for cost-sensitive embedded applications. Typical TinyJ applications include cellular phones, information appliances, web-enabled digital TV boxes, set-top boxes, Smart Cards, hearing aids, and a myriad of other similar applications. Since ThreadX is designed for the same type of markets, there is no wonder why both ThreadX and the TinyJ are experiencing rapid gains in popularity.

ThreadX supports all TinyJ processor cores and is fully integrated with the C/C++ development environment from Apogee Software, Inc. In addition, ThreadX is completely integrated with a number of JVM implementations.
