4M Wireless Licenses LTE Protocol Stack to 4G Baseband Chip Vendor
Mar 19, 2009 -- 4M Wireless Ltd., the leading supplier of LTE protocol stack software has licensed its technology to a fabless semiconductor company developing a 4G multi-mode baseband chip for LTE.
4M Wireless licensed its technology at the beginning of 2009 to the baseband chipset vendor. The 4M Wireless LTE protocol stack is compatible with legacy 2G/3G protocol stacks as well as WiMAX stacks and was chosen based on its ability to meet the stringent needs of the customer. The silicon chip customer, which is already a leader in its field, is developing 4G multimode baseband chip for handsets and handheld devices and will have a completely integrated 4G solution later this year. The company will incorporate the LTE protocol stack with its physical layer to produce one of the world’s lowest power and smallest silicon solutions, and will offer a complete 4G multimode reference design to consumer device manufacturers. 4M Wireless has been developing its PS100 LTE protocol stack since the start of the specification process for 3GPP Release 8. The LTE stack is already in use with companies developing LTE technology and is being tested with leading eNodeB vendors and conformance test equipment suppliers. The PS100 is compliant to the latest version of the Release 8 LTE specification and has been ported to multiple embedded devices. The software is fully independent of operating system and hardware platform, and is designed to have a low memory footprint and optimum processor utilization. To simplify integration and interoperability testing, the PS100 comes supplied with a full set of test and debugging tools. “This licensing contract once again confirms our status as the chosen supplier of LTE protocol stacks.” stated Atif Malik, CEO, 4M Wireless Ltd. “4M Wireless enables the competitive advantages needed by developers of LTE technology. Our LTE protocol stack is ready, is proven in the industry and will accelerate the time-to-market of our customers. By working with us, our partners have a clear roadmap to successfully complete their product development.” An increasing number of mobile operators are aiming for early deployment of LTE networks and require terminal devices. As a result baseband chip vendors are stepping up their efforts. With rising R&D costs and the significant challenges of developing and supporting a cellular stack, the 4M Wireless LTE protocol software is the reliable and cost effective solution for companies looking to enter the LTE market.
