GCT Semiconductor Leverages MIPS Technologies' Analog IP for Mobile WiMAX(TM)
Data Conversion IP Seamlessly Integrated for Fast Time-to-Market
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- March 19, 2009 -- MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard architectures, processors and analog IP for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, today announced that GCT Semiconductor, Inc., a leading supplier of Mobile WiMAX(TM) solutions to the global market, is leveraging a range of its advanced Analog Front Ends (AFEs) to support highly-integrated single-chip and chipset solutions for Mobile WiMAX and WiFi connectivity. Several of the MIPS(R) AFEs for wireless broadband communications are integrated into products that are already shipping. Recently GCT added a new AFE from MIPS Technologies to its portfolio. "MIPS Technologies' AFEs provide high performance and versatility, and the robustness of the underlying converter technology allows seamless integration and operation of the AFE inside our complex SoCs--helping to speed time-to-market," said GCT Semiconductor Vice President of Product Development Larry Dano. "MIPS' technologists have deep expertise in broadband communications. Throughout our five year relationship, they always have been available and responsive to requests, collaborating closely with the GCT design team." "We are pleased that GCT has reaffirmed its commitment to MIPS through this latest engagement," said Joao Vital, vice president of data conversion solutions, Analog Business Group, MIPS Technologies. "By collaborating closely with GCT on its market-leading broadband communications solutions, we have established a very close relationship, leading to seamless integration of our IP into GCT's products. We are committed to helping ensure the continuing success of GCT's designs." GCT integrated MIPS AFEs into highly-integrated WiMAX(TM) and WiFi single chips and chipsets for PCs, PDAs, phones and other devices with wireless broadband communications functionality. The MIPS AFEs are integrated into several GCT products including the GDM7215 single-chip WiMAX plus WiFi integrated circuit; the GDM7205 mobile WiMAX 2.5 GHz Wave 2 single chip; and the GDM7201 WiMAX chipset. MIPS Technologies offers a complete portfolio of silicon-proven data conversion IP, from single blocks to complete AFE solutions for Mobile WiMax / Wibro (WMAN) and WiFi (WLAN); UWB for wireless USB, WiMedia, other WPAN networks, video or data communications; Blu-ray Disk(TM) storage, touch screen interface, Rx path of digital TV broadcast, Rx path in set-top boxes, analog video interfaces, modems and satellite receivers. MIPS Technologies' AFE for wireless broadband communications is feature-rich, complete, compact and low-power. It supports multiple standards including 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.16e in deep submicron technologies and multiple foundries. Using MIPS' cutting-edge high-performance/low-power pipeline ADC and current steering DAC technology, designers can reduce their bill of materials (BOM) and reduce system cost. MIPS Technologies provides seamless integration of hard macros onto SoCs, backed by support from an engineering team with more than 11 years' experience designing data conversion IP cores, mainly for consumer electronics and communications applications.
