Aeroflex Gaisler Announces LynxOS Support for the LEON processorGothenburg, Sweden -- March 20, 2009 -- Aeroflex Gaisler AB, the leader in System on Chip (SoC) design, today announced that the LynxOS operating system from LynuxWorks, Inc., now is supported by the LEON3 processor. A port, a board support package and a demonstration application are now available for the GNU based SW development environment. "LynxWorks leadership in real-time operating systems for mission critical applications makes them an ideal partner for us,” said Jiri Gaisler, CTO of Aeroflex Gaisler. “All RTOS components within LynxOS are designed for absolute determinism (i.e.: hard real-time performance). This means that they absolutely must respond within a known period of time. This predictable response is ensured even in the presence of heavy I/O due to the kernel's unique threading model, enabling interrupt routines to be extremely short and fast.” The LynxOS RTOS also exhibits true linear scalability, so that it stays unwaveringly deterministic even as the tasks it performs increase massively. And this determinism extends to networking applications, which can stay responsive even in the face of the most complex demands. The LEON3 is a high-performance 32-bit SPARC V8 processor that provides computing capabilities to cost-sensitive embedded microcontroller applications at a cost equivalent to legacy 8- and 16-bit processors. The processor is available as a soft core for instantiations into both FPGAs and ASICs. The LEON3 processor is targeted at space, military, industrial and consumer electronics applications, such as satellites, digital set top boxes, and industrial power control devices.
