NEC licenses xDSL technology from Aware
NEC licenses xDSL technology from Aware TOKYO In an effort to bolster its system-on-a-chip efforts in communications markets, NEC Corp. has licensed G.992.2 "G.Lite" digital subscriber line technology and software from Aware Inc. NEC has already incorporated technology from Aware (Bedford, Mass.) into its ANSI T1.413 full-rate PD98451 chip set, which provides both G.Lite and full-rate ADSL functionality. The chip set is aimed at telecommunications manufacturers, networking-systems OEMs and modem manufacturers. Aware's G.Lite technology will support 1.5-Mbit/second transmission speeds downstream and 512-kbits/s upstream at distances of up to 24,000 feet. The technology is optimized to provide broadband data transmission over telephone lines without interrupting regular telephone service, according to NEC.
