ARC names Turley to marketing post
ARC names Turley to marketing post SAN JOSE, Calif. ARC Cores Ltd. (London), developer of the ARC configurable and extensible 32-bit RISC processor architecture, has named Jim Turley vice president of marketing and head of its newly opened office in San Jose, Calif. Turley was a senior analyst for embedded technologies at MicroDesign Resources Inc., publisher of the Microprocessor Report newsletter, and host of last week's Embedded Processor Forum, here. Ziff-Davis recently sold MicroDesign Resources to Cahners Business Information. Speaking of his move from analyst back into industry, Turley said, "The trouble with analysis is that you are always window-shopping, but you can't touch. I couldn't invest and couldn't take up board positions. "ARC is unlike any of the other companies that have gone by. ARC is the only one where I think, 'these guys have got it dead on,' " he said. ARC has pioneered the use of configurability within processor cores that are licensed in the form of hardware-description files prior to synthesis by the users. "You don't work smarter by hand-crafting architecture at a deep level. To me, ARC's approach is exactly the right one. It's about getting the job done quickly," Turley said. "I see my role as company lookout, and what better background than five years of analyzing the industry?" Turley said the San Jose office would house about 10 employees by the end of this year based on a mix of sales and application engineers. "We're extremely pleased that Jim has decided to join ARC," said Bob Terwilliger, president and chief executive officer of ARC. "Jim is a perfect fit and his appointment completes the building up of the management team that I started nine months ago. "With Jim's background it's especially good that he decided to go with ARC, and it's another validation of what we're doing," Terwilliger added. Prior to his five-year stint at MicroDesign Resources, Turley was director of engineering at Adept Technology, a rob otics company. Before that he was an engineer with Force Computers Inc.
