Lauterbach, Discretix Announce Alliance To Provide Secure Chip Debug CapabilityLauterbach TRACE32® PowerTools now support Discretix Secure JTAG Debug Module, Giving OEMs Highly Secure, Authenticated Way to Debug SoC Errors Throughout System’s Lifetime SANTA CLARA, CA and HOEHENKIRCHEN-SIEGERTSBRUNN, GERMANY – January 25, 2010 – Discretix, the leading global provider of embedded security solutions, and Lauterbach, the leading manufacturer of hardware assisted microprocessor development tools, today announced a technology alliance that leverages the power of Lauterbach’s TRACE32® PowerTools and the security of Discretix’ Secure JTAG (SJTAG) Debug Module. Through the alliance, manufacturers will now be able to securely analyze and debug the microchip components in their devices at any time during product lifecycle. Lauterbach’s JTAG Debugger is an integrated feature of all the company’s TRACE32® modular development systems. The tool enables engineers to debug System on Chip (SoC) code during development and manufacturing. Typically, debugging interfaces such as JTAG are disabled as a chip leaves the factory to ensure that no option exists for abuse by hackers or other unauthorized parties. Now Lauterbach’s new Secure JTAG (SJTAG) authentication support for the Discretix Secure JTAG Debug Module enables to keep debugging interfaces active, yet protected. Only parties authorized by the manufacturer can authenticate their Lauterbach’s TRACE32® PowerTools, access to the SoC’s various parts remains walled off to hackers. Chip manufacturers can also apply a range of access policies. “The joint cooperation between Lauterbach and Discretix gives new options to developers, chip manufacturers and OEMs,” said Norbert Weiss, International Sales & Marketing Manager of Lauterbach GmbH. “Through our alliance, these organizations can debug chip errors long after they have reached production stage, giving them better information and greater power for long-term improvement of their products.” “Discretix is pleased to work alongside Lauterbach to ensure optimum performance and satisfaction for SoC designers and OEMs, particularly those employing the new Intel Moorestown MID platform,” added Asaf Shen, Director of Product Marketing for Discretix. “Lauterbach’s Moorestown support, combined with Discretix’ Secure JTAG Debug capability, provides a powerful new option for users of Intel’s new SoC.” The Discretix Secure JTAG Debug Module, suitable for connection using a standard JTAG (IEEE 1149.1) test access port on the debugging PC, can control up to 32 debug domains. The configurable module prevents unauthorized access to internal registers or memories when the device is running and code is available in on-chip memory. Discretix’ Secure JTAG Debug Module is available as part of its CryptoCell® and CryptoFlash® security products.
