IP Cores, Inc. Announces a New Version of the RSA Public Key AcceleratorPalo Alto, California -- April 15, 2010 -- IP Cores, Inc. has announced availability of a new version of its popular RSA public key acceleration IP core. RSA is widely used in secure communication devices, smart cards, RFID and medical applications. "New version of the core simplifies the typical software integration, while keeping the extremely low resources required by the core – RSA1 starts at less than 5 thousand ASIC gates and minimal amount of external memory," said Dmitri Varsanofiev, CTO of IP Cores. RSA Cryptography RSA (the name of it stands for Rivest, Shamir and Adleman who first publicly described it) is a first widely deployed algorithm for public-key cryptography. RSA is frequently used in electronic commerce protocols. However, with advances of computing power worldwide, the required length of the keys is growing rapidly, and hardware acceleration becomes essential unless system contains a high-end CPU. RSA1 Core Implementation of the RSA algorithm in hardware has few important advantages over the software-only solutions. For smaller CPUs hardware is the only solution with acceptable user experience and on the battery-powered devices hardware greatly the battery life, allowing a typical signature verification operation to be completed in less than a second. Due to its extremely small size – and matching low power consumption – hardware RSA implementation enables standard public key cryptography on smart cards and RFID devices. Furthermore, a proper hardware implementation due to its inherent high throughput can avoid the optimized implementation techniques and thus be unencumbered by the patents. RSA1 core by IP Cores, Inc implements the only time-consuming portion of the RSA algorithm (modular exponentiation) and weighs in at less than 5,000 ASIC gates. RSA1 datasheet is available on the IP Cores, Inc. Web site at http://ipcores.com/rsa_ip_core.htm . For more information about IP Cores’ product line, please visit www.ipcores.com . About IP Cores, Inc. IP Cores is a rapidly growing company in the field of security and DSP IP cores. Founded 4 years ago, the company provides IP cores for communications and storage fields, including AES-based ECB/CBC/OCB/CFB, AES-GCM and AES-XTS cores, flow-through AES/CCM cores with header parsing for IEEE 802.11 (WiFi), 802.16e (WiMAX), 802.15.3 (MBOA), 802.15.4 (Zigbee), public-key accelerators for RSA and elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), cryptographically secure pseudo-random number generators (CS PRNG), lossless data compression cores as well as low-latency fixed and floating-point FFT, IFFT, and Viterbi detector cores.
