Elliptic Technologies First Past the Post with Upgraded NIST Validation for Storage SecurityUpdate: Synopsys Expands Security Solutions with Acquisition of Elliptic Technologies (June 29, 2015) May 19, 2010 – Ottawa, Canada: Security IP provider Elliptic today announced that it has completed a substantial upgrade to its NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) and CSEC (Communications Security Establishment Canada) cryptographic accreditation. This latest achievement includes the recently approved NIST cipher AES-XTS used for security on disks and storage area networks making Elliptic the first company to achieve verification of this important new security standard. The NIST Cryptographic Algorithm Validation Program (CAVP) encompasses validation testing for FIPS approved and NIST recommended cryptographic algorithms. All of the tests under the CAVP are handled by third-party laboratories that are accredited as Cryptographic and Security Testing (CST) Laboratories by the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP). Elliptic completed its first CAVP accreditation in February 2007 for its hardware IP cores and followed this with the certification of its EllipsysTM software in April 2007. This latest accreditation includes the AES-XTS algorithm for hardware and Ellipsys software and extends the Ellipsys software accreditation to include Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and Random Number Generator algorithms. Overall, this offers Elliptic customers the widest range of verified algorithms in the IP industry today and solidifies Elliptic’s lead in supplying a high quality product through its ISO 9001:2008 registration and CAVP accreditation. “The achievement of the CAVP accreditation ensures our customers that the security algorithms implemented in Elliptic IP conform to the standards required for FIPS validation as well as commercial security applications.” said Richard White, President and CEO of Elliptic Technologies. “We would like to thank our third-party CST partner – DOMUS IT Security Laboratory, for expediting the testing for us and ensuring that we would be the first company in the world to achieve CAVP accreditation for the XTS-AES storage security algorithm.”
