Assisting the Customer to Get the Certification of USB 3.0 Host Controller, Faraday Sets A Great Milestone for Its and USB 3.0's Market Expansion in the IndustryHsinchu, Taiwan, May 20, 2010 -- Faraday Technology Corporation (TAIEX: 3035) today announced that the USB 3.0 host controller of its customer, Fresco Logic, has passed USB-IF certification and obtained the xHCI controller logo. This controller, developed based on Faraday's PHY, is the first certified USB 3.0 host controller in Taiwan and one of the only two in the world. In light of the enormous market opportunities of the USB 3.0, the certification sets a great milestone for Faraday's future market expansion in the PC peripherals and multimedia applications. "Faraday has played an important role in the development of the host controller since PHY is quite a key component within," said Y.K. Tseng, Associate Vice President at Faraday. "Beyond the basic specification requirements, to ensure the controller's compatibility with various devices, Faraday, at the initial stage of PHY design, has strived to take precautions against all risks possibly resulting from noises, packaging, and circuit boards, leaving sufficient margin and tolerance on the board. Thus, our customers have no worries about compatibility of chips and system products, and get their products certified in one shot. Faraday has launched its USB 3.0 solutions at 0.13um, 0.11um and 90nm, and will gradually complete the portfolio at advanced process nodes. Further, the more competitive versions with lower power consumption and smaller areas are under developing as well." This USB 3.0 host controller was certified in the workshop held in Portland, Oregon at the end of April this year. The technology barrier of host controller is high and the specifications are strict, so the certification presents not only its perfect compatibility, but also considerable meaning to the market expansion. "The on-time certification of the host controller is attributed to Fresco Logic's leadership in host controller technology, Faraday's abundant experiences in USB PHY development, and our close cooperation and partnership," said Steve Wang, Chief Strategy Officer at Faraday. "By assisting Fresco Logic to develop this controller, Faraday has involved much about the host specifications, making Faraday more hands-on and competitive on ensuring compatibility for device-end customers' products. Moreover, there was only one supplier of host controller that passed the certification in the past, as the certification of Fresco Logic's host controller, the situation will be changed, and the system houses will have another choice of even more competitive, excellent, and compatible host solution. We are highly confident that this will consequently help with USB 3.0's popularization and penetration into the industry."
