MIPS Technologies' Multi-Threaded Processor Powers New C2-270(TM) Collision Prevention System From MobileyeOff-the-Shelf Driver Safety Product Features MIPS-Based(TM) Mobileye EyeQ2(R) Vision Chip SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov 8, 2010 -- MIPS Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, home networking, wireless, communications and business applications, announced today that its multi-threaded MIPS32(R) 34K(R) core is powering the revolutionary new Mobileye C2-270(TM) collision prevention system. The C2-270 was introduced separately by Mobileye, the global pioneer and leader in vision-based collision prevention systems. The off-the-shelf C2-270 product, featuring Mobileye's MIPS-Based(TM) EyeQ2(R) vision chip, can increase pedestrian, road and vehicle safety by alerting drivers in the critical seconds before a collision occurs. "We are committed to MIPS processors for the current and next generation of our EyeQ(TM) SoC. MIPS' multi-threaded 34K cores helped us achieve a 6x performance increase in the EyeQ2 vision chip over the prior generation. Now drivers across the world can benefit from our EyeQ2 technology through the C2-270, which provides an unprecedented alert capability to help keep drivers safe. The wide variety of algorithms and functionality in the C2-270, including its unique pedestrian collision warning capability, require extreme real-time performance that could only be provided by the MIPS-Based EyeQ2," said Isaac Litman, CEO of Mobileye Products. "With its unique and innovative technology, Mobileye is making the world a safer place, and we are excited to be a part of that," said Art Swift, vice president of marketing and business development, MIPS Technologies. "The high performance, low power, flexibility and reliability inherent in the MIPS(R) architecture make it an ideal choice for automotive safety and infotainment applications. The multi-threading capability in our processors such as the 34K core offers an additional performance boost and cost savings." Mobileye's family of EyeQ vision processors and its broad range of algorithms for mono-camera driver assistance systems target vehicle active safety applications such as lane departure warning, vehicle detection, pedestrian detection, intelligent headlight control and traffic sign recognition. About MIPS32 34K Cores The 34K core family is the first implementation of the MIPS(R) Multi-threading (MT) Application Specific Extension (ASE) in a licensable IP core, designed to exploit multi-threading in embedded applications. Processing multiple software threads in parallel, 34K cores mask the effect of memory latency to deliver instant 20-40% gains in system performance and cost savings, with a very modest increase in die size. The 34K core family also meets the real-time requirements of embedded applications by giving users the ability to allocate dedicated processing bandwidth to real-time tasks. About Mobileye N.V. Mobileye N.V. is headquartered in The Netherlands, with R&D facilities in Israel and offices in the U.S., Cyprus and Japan. Mobileye is a technological leader in the area of advanced image sensing and processing technology for automotive applications, with a product offering covering the entire range of vision applications. Mobileye's unique monocular vision platform works as a third eye to help drivers improve safety and avoid accidents, and revolutionizes the way we drive. Mobileye's products containing proprietary software algorithms bundled on the EyeQ(TM) system-on-chip have been integrated into BMW, GM, Volvo and Yulon Motors (Nissan) models since 2007.
