Taiwan's Macronix licenses ARM's 16/32-bit RISC processor cores
Taiwan's Macronix licenses ARM's 16/32-bit RISC processor cores CAMBRIDGE, England -- ARM Ltd. here today announced that it has licensed its 16/32-bit embedded RISC processor technology to Taiwan's Macronix International Co. Ltd. Under the terms, Macronix has licensed ARM's ARM7TDMI microprocessor core. The Hsinchu-based company will deploy the ARM core alongside its own portfolio of logic intellectual property (IP) cores. Macronix will use ARM's RISC processor technology for use in portable devices. "Working with ARM, Macronix will be able to offer its customers the complete processor solution they are demanding for the portable device market," said J.P. Peng, vice president of Multimedia Business Unit for Macronix. "Macronix plans to deploy the ARM7TDMI core in solutions targeted at a wide range of portable devices, from digital cameras to personal digital assistant devices," said Philip Lu, president of ARM Taiwan.
