First Silicon Solutions and Accelerated Technology partner to create comprehensive tool chain for the New MIPS32™4KE™ CoresSAN FRANCISCO, CA – March 14, 2002 -- At the Embedded Systems Conference today, First Silicon Solutions, the leader in producing OCI® (On-chip Instrumentation) and custom development tools, and Accelerated Technology, the leading no-royalty embedded software solution, announced the availability of the first comprehensive integrated tool chain for MIPS32 4KE Cores. The tools combine key elements of the FS2 Navigator® suite of tools: the Navigator OCI® which is standard in the MIPS core, the FS2 BlackBox® hardware debugger, and the Accelerated Technology code|lab™ Debugger, for a powerful, easy to use, source level debug interface that brings all the debug features in the silicon out to the user's desktop. The sophisticated debug features of the OCI are non-intrusively accessed by the FS2 BlackBox hardware debugger. The system enables user configurable real-time on-chip and/or off-chip trace collection with sophisticated triggers. The system is attached to the MIPS target using a standard EJTAG connector for on-chip trace features, or optionally by using a 38-pin controlled impedance Mictor cable that handles both the EJATG signals and off-chip trace data. Accelerated Technology's source-level debugger, code|lab Debug, runs on the user's PC and interfaces to the FS2 BlackBox using parallel or USB connections. code|lab Debug supports the industry standard GNU tools for C, assembly and linker/locator utilities. It gives the user complete visibility into the MIPS target CPU resources, memory, RTOS, task information, source-level run-control, breakpoint settings, trace display, and a variety of other project and target management features. "There are a wide variety of software tools for SoC design, but finding one that is seamlessly integrated from host IDE to silicon IP is uncommon. For MIPS32 4KE Cores, FS2 is the first to seamlessly integrate everything from trace and trigger features in the core, through a high-performance hardware-assisted debugger that manages the debug block and development system, to Accelerated Technology's code|lab™ Debugger, and GNU compiler running on a Windows PC… making the first complete real-time trace enabled tool chain. The advantage is significant time-to-market savings for our users," said Rick Leatherman, president, FS2. "The combination of the code|lab Debugger with the FS2 tool will bring unprecedented benefits of a fully integrated suite of solutions to the MIPS 4KE users," said Michelle Hale, vice president of Marketing, Accelerated Technology, Inc. "For the first time, customers will be able to realize the benefits of the FS2 on-chip instrumentation, on-chip and off-chip trace technology, with the readily available GNU tool chain and code|lab Debug complemented with Accelerated Technology's Nucleus RTOS products."
