MIPS and SYSGO Collaborate to Bring SYSGO's PikeOS Virtualization Technology to MIPS32 CoresHypervisor Enables Multiple Applications and Operating Systems to Run Securely in Parallel on MIPS-Based™ Platforms SUNNYVALE, Calif. - November 9, 2011 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital home, networking and mobile applications, and SYSGO, a leading supplier of certifiable operating systems and embedded virtualization, today announced they are collaborating to bring SYSGO's embedded virtualization technology to MIPS32® processor cores. SYSGO's PikeOSTM Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) is a hypervisor virtualization platform that allows several applications and operating systems such as AndroidTM and Linux to run securely in parallel on a single hardware platform. With PikeOS, MIPS' licensees have flexibility in deploying CPU resources for different tasks, potentially eliminating the need for a dedicated security CPU in their system. Microprocessor and system-level security are increasing in importance with the advent of mobile payments, streaming of sensitive data across devices, processing of high-value media content and other consumer-driven developments. To address these trends, PikeOS offers a unique combination of an RTOS and a secure virtualization environment. "With PikeOS, we are addressing a new generation of embedded safety, security and reliability requirements across a range of markets. Compared to a conventional RTOS, the dynamic re-allocation of computing time enabled by PikeOS allows the best possible usage of CPU resources. We are pleased to work closely with MIPS to offer this solution to its licensees, who will benefit from the clean, flexible architecture and unique features of PikeOS," said Jacques Brygier, vice president of marketing, SYSGO. "Hypervisor-based virtualization is an important piece of the embedded security picture across each of MIPS Technologies' target markets. Such a solution is flexible, and enables scaling of security across multiple applications and operating system instances. Together with SYSGO, we are already engaging with customers and prospects in the digital home, networking, automotive and mobile markets," said Gideon Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies. Availability PikeOS is available now for the MIPS32 24K®, 34K® and 74K® cores. Symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) support will be available Q1 2012. To schedule a demonstration of PikeOS running on MIPS32 cores or for more information, contact SYSGO at info@sysgo.com or visit www.sysgo.com. About PikeOS PikeOS is an innovative product, providing an embedded systems platform where multiple virtual machines can run simultaneously in a secure environment. The Safe and Secure Virtualization (SSV) technology allows multiple operating system APIs, called "Personalities", to run concurrently on one machine, e.g. an ARINC-653 application together with Linux. The PikeOS microkernel architecture allows it to be used in cost sensitive, resource constrained devices as well as large, complex systems. The simplicity and compactness of the PikeOS design results in real-time performance that competes head-to-head with conventional proprietary RTOS solutions. PikeOS is certifiable to safety standards like DO-178B, IEC 61508 or EN 50128, is MILS compliant, and has achieved the First Level of Security Certification delivered by the French Network and Information Security Agency. About SYSGO SYSGO provides operating system technology, middleware, and software services for the real-time and embedded market. A differentiating capability of SYSGO is the SSV (Safe and Secure Virtualization) platform PikeOS, a paravirtualization operating system which is built upon a small, fast, and safe microkernel. It supports the co-existence of independent operating system personalities on a single platform, including ELinOS, SYSGO's embedded Linux distribution. SYSGO supports international customers with services for embedded Linux, real-time capabilities and certification for safety-critical applications. Markets include Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Automation, Automotive, Transportation and Network Infrastructure. Customers include Airbus, EADS, Thales, Daimler, Raytheon, Rheinmetall, Rockwell-Collins, Nokia Siemens Network, and Rohde & Schwarz. SYSGO has facilities in Germany, France, The Czech Republic and North America, and offers a global distribution and support network, including Europe and the Pacific Rim.
