Standard Micro acquires analog startup, Gain Technology Corp.
Standard Micro acquires analog startup SAN FRANCISCO Standard Microsystems Corp. (Hauppauge, N.Y.) said Monday that it will acquire Gain Technology Corp., a developer of analog intellectual property (IP), in a cash and stock transaction worth about $34 million. On first blush, the acquisition of Gain Technology (Tuscon, Ariz.) complements Standard Micro's USB and high-speed serial bus offerings. Standard Micro makes ATA and ATAPI bridge controllers for external disk drives, as well as USB 2.0 products. Gain, which had been developing mixed-signal products for IP customers, announced its own USB physical-layer offerings at the Intel Developer Forum in February. The acquisition will support Standard Micro's interest in high-speed communications and PC peripherals. Products under development at Gain include RF wireless transceivers and a serial transceiver for multi-gigabit applications.
