sci-worx’ MPEG-4 solution sciSTREAM demonstrates outstanding performanceHannover, Germany – May 14, 2002 – sci-worx, one of the world's leading providers for IP and system solutions for the mobile application market, revealed performance metrics for its real-time MPEG-4 video encoding and decoding solution sciSTREAM. Equipped with a hardware/software codesign approach as well as a scalable system partitioning between software and hardware accelerators, sciSTREAM enables the early deployment of cost efficient video applications in mobile environments. A data processing performance of QCIF (176 x 144 pixel) at 15 frames/second addresses the needs of today's video-on-demand, video chat and video conferencing applications. sciSTREAM is a milestone in IP technology, providing access to a solution proofing data processing and power consumption performance which is comparable to less flexible highly dedicated and specific hardware implementations. The solution is combining both the flexibility and scalability of pure software solutions with the power consumption and performance advantages of a pure hardware solution. Thanks to the smart system partitioning, sciSTREAM achieves excellent performance coupled with upgradability for future enhancements. With its comparable CPU performance measures of 16 MHz for decoding, 23 MHz for encoding and only 39 MHz for video conferencing applications, sciSTREAM outperforms other solutions available to the market. sciSTREAM's system partitioning has been optimized to offer best in class video quality while utilizing as little as possible today's available processing performance of embedded processors. sciSTREAM reduces performance requirements by factors up to 5 compared to software only solutions. This enables mobile system designers to allocate freed-up processor resources to other value-adding and differentiating applications. "We are enabling our customers to bring video applications to their products as the key differentiator in a highly competitive market environment," said Jürgen Ruprecht, CEO at sci-worx. "The performance metrics of our solution allow the introduction of high quality video capabilities to products even in the low-end and mid-range market segment." sciSTREAM has been designed and optimized to meet the key requirements of the mobile application market: power consumption, processor performance and image quality. With its optimized processing performance requirements and a compact gate count it is excellently targeting the mobile phone market. More than that, it is also ready for integration into PDAs and next generation mobile gaming consoles. About sci-worx Contact sci-worx GmbH
