PowerDsine Certifies Mysticom's MY1001 as First Power over LAN Compliant Gigabit Ethernet TransceiverMysticom and PowerDsine team up to enable the delivery of Gigabit data rates and power to remote network nodes FARMINGDALE, N.Y. and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 28, 2002 – PowerDsine® has certified Mysticom's MY1001 Gigabit Ethernet over copper transceiver as the first to successfully pass all operation tests with PowerDsine's Power over LAN™ integrated solution products. This breakthrough was achieved without any degradation in Gigabit speed data performance or distance of operation well in excess of the 100-meter standard cabling. The significance of this interoperability test is that it enables Gigabit Ethernet switch vendors to integrate Power over LAN technology into their designs of 1000BaseT Ethernet switches, creating a robust solution for speedy desktop data and power. Power over LAN is an innovative technology that allows next generation IP telephones, wireless LAN access points, web cameras, industrial automation sensors and other Ethernet terminals to safely and reliably receive data and power over standard twisted pair cables. A special protection circuitry automatically activates the power only when a compatible terminal is present. "The inevitable convergence of voice and video with data networks based on Ethernet has created the need for innovative solutions to address the combined communications and power needs for equipment in applications such as voice and video over IP," said Wiren Perera, vice president of worldwide marketing, Mysticom. "As the only PHY vendor to successfully prove our interoperability with PowerDsine's Power over LAN technology, we are now able to provide assurances to our customers that their Gigabit Ethernet switches will work out of the box with IP phones and network devices." The tests, conducted by Mysticom and PowerDsine, verified the performance of Power over LAN and Gigabit Ethernet by transmitting power over the data cable pairs and concluded that the two technologies are interoperable while preserving all data and power required performance parameters. The tests confirmed successful communication between a remotely powered Gigabit Ethernet NIC and Power over LAN enabled switch with no data link degradation. The connection was tested at lengths exceeding the standard 100m in various environmental conditions for data and power performance. "While the nearly finalized IEEE 802.3af standard only addresses the combination of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet networking and power, we see the market requirement moving quickly in the direction of Gigabit Ethernet," said Amir Lehr, vice president of marketing, PowerDsine. "Our cooperation with Mysticom provides a simple and robust integration for leading Gigabit network switch and appliance vendors." About the MY1001 About PowerDsine About Mysticom # # #
