Undo and ARM Agreement Delivers First Commercial Reversible Linux and Android Application Debugger for ARM ProcessorsNew feature in ARM DS-5 tool suite enables developers to rapidly resolve nightmare bugs CAMBRIDGE, UK, September 24, 2013—Undo Software, a supplier of Linux and Android software development solutions, today announced that ARM has entered into an agreement to integrate UndoDB in its flagship software development tool suite, ARM® DS™-5 Development Studio. UndoDB is the only C/C++ Linux reversible debugger with the required performance to be of practical use in the real world. UndoDB can record everything that any Linux program does and then allows developers to “wind the tape back and forth” to home in on their bug. Many bugs that would otherwise take weeks to fix can be fixed in just minutes with UndoDB. Software developers spend much of their time finding and fixing bugs. A recent study released in January 2013 by MBA students at the Cambridge Judge Business School showed that on average software developers spend 50 per cent of their programming time finding and fixing bugs. The Cambridge study went on to find that respondents who used Undo’s reversible debugging technology spent an average of 26 per cent less time debugging. The performance impact of UndoDB is minimal, with execution thousands of times faster than other software-based implementations. With this agreement, Undo and ARM have collaborated to provide a seamless integration of UndoDB into the ARM DS-5 Development Studio tool suite. “From embedded to mobile and servers, the adoption of Linux and its variants continues to rapidly grow across many of ARM’s market segments,” said Hobson Bullman, deputy general manager, System Design Division, ARM. “The integration of Undo’s high-performance reversible debugging technology into DS-5 Development Studio tool suite significantly reduces the cost associated with hunting down complex bugs in Linux systems, without relying on external debug or trace hardware.” “We’re delighted that ARM, a global leader in the mobile ecosystem, has recognized the value UndoDB brings to software developers on the ARM architecture,” said Greg Law, co-founder and CEO, Undo Software. “Collaboration with ARM on the incorporation of UndoDB into the DS-5 tool suite has gone very smoothly, thanks to our unique product capability and a strong Cambridge network.” UndoDB will be included in DS-5 version 5.16, which is scheduled for October 2013.
