Qualcomm Maintains Lead
Boston, MA - December 20, 2013 - The global smartphone applications processor market registered 31 percent year-on-year growth to reach $4.9 billion in Q3 2013, according to the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies (HCT) service report, "Smartphone Apps Processor Market Share Q3 2013: Qualcomm, Apple and MediaTek Together Capture 80 Percent Revenue Share."
According to this Strategy Analytics report, Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Samsung and Spreadtrum grabbed the top-five revenue share spots in the smartphone apps processor market in Q3 2013. Qualcomm continued its lead in the smartphone applications processor market with 53 percent revenue share, followed by Apple with 18 percent share and MediaTek with 10 percent share in Q3 2013.
According to Sravan Kundojjala, Senior Analyst, "Samsung ranked number four in smartphone applications processors in revenue terms. Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa so far has not attained the same level of success as its predecessor, the Exynos 4 Quad. Strategy Analytics believes that Samsung's latest LTE-integrated Exynos chip, which started shipping from Q3 2013, can enable Samsung to go after the high-volume mid-range market in 2014 and thus regain some volume share."
According to Stuart Robinson, Director of the Strategy Analytics Handset Component Technologies service, "Qualcomm continued its lead in smartphone applications processors. The latest Snapdragon 800 family of chips gained strong traction in second half flagship smartphones from Samsung, LG, Sony, Xiaomi and others. Qualcomm remains the company to beat in mobile processors with its broad product portfolio, integration capabilities and strong relationships with manufacturers around the world."
