Gigabyte Licenses Blue802™ Technology For Dual-Mode Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Wireless SolutionsBlue802™ Technology Delivers Optimal Simultaneous Operation of Bluetooth™ and Wi-Fi Wireless Technologies in PCs AMSTERDAM, Bluetooth Congress 2002, June 12, 2002 - Silicon Wave, a world leading silicon developer and provider for Wireless Personal Area Networks, and Intersil Corporation (NASDAQ: ISIL), a world leader in the design and manufacture of high performance analog and wireless networking solutions, announced today that their jointly developed Blue802™ Technology is being licensed by Gigabyte Technology for integration into a USB adapter and a variety of other desktop PC products. Blue802™ Technology is a unique collaborative real-time communications interface that allows simultaneous operation of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (IEEE 802,11b) wireless technologies without interference in the 2.4GHz band while maintaining connectivity and optimizing system throughput, range, and responsiveness. This enables PC-based Bluetooth applications such as mouse, keyboard, printing, file transfer and portable device synchronization to run at the same time the user's PC is connected to a network over Wi-Fi, and delivers virtually the same experience as that found when operating over wired Ethernet and USB. Blue802™ Technology is completely compatible with coexistence methods that are likely to be added to the two standards in the coming years, including Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH), but adds a higher level of performance at lower system cost in collocated systems such as PC notebooks. "Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless technologies are increasingly being integrated into PCs, and users want to be able to operate both at the same time," said Etay Lee, vice president of Gigabyte's Network Products Division. "We chose Blue802 Technology because it is the only viable solution available today that lets us get to market fast with a product that delivers simultaneous, interference-free operation." "Blue802 Technology is a low-risk solution that can be easily integrated into PCs," said David Feller, marketing director for Intersil's Wireless Division. "Direct conversion radios let us deliver a low-cost dual-mode solution while maintaining high RF performance." "As a world leader in producing high quality desktop motherboards, Gigabyte is well positioned to lead the PC market to a completely wireless desktop," said Ken Sherman, senior product manager for Silicon Wave. "We are pleased to be collaborating with Gigabyte and look forward to finally cutting the wires from the desktop PC." About Gigabyte Technology About Intersil
