Xilinx Enables 300 MSPS Programmable DSP Systems With New Virtex-II Pro FPGAsNew Virtex-II Pro FPGAs deliver DSP performance levels beyond the reach of traditional programmable DSP solutions SAN JOSE, Calif., June 24, 2002 - Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced it has extended its XtremeDSP initiative with the recently expanded Virtex-II ProTM FPGA family. Using the new Virtex-II Pro devices, Xilinx customers can now achieve DSP performance levels equal to 1 trillion MACs per second, enabling 300 Mega Samples Per Second (MSPS) programmable DSP systems. This significant increase in DSP performance level is achieved through leveraging the increased number of embedded multipliers and logic cells in the Virtex-II Pro devices. Combined with the new System Generator for DSP v2.2 tool also announced today, system architects and DSP designers can now meet the increasing performance and flexibility requirements of wireless, video and imaging applications. "By leveraging the Virtex-II Pro FPGA, DSP designers can now reach performance levels previously attainable using only ASICs," said professor fred harris of San Diego State University, a leading DSP expert. "Virtex-II Pro FPGAs can now directly filter multiple parallel data paths at 300 MHz sample rates, enabling polyphase channelizers to process data from the highest speed A/D converters. For example, a customer recently implemented and verified my polyphase FPGA filter design interfacing to an 8-bit A/D that samples at 1.0 GHz. The Virtex-II Pro devices are ideal for demanding DSP tasks such as digital down conversion for wireless applications and real time video, imaging, and 3D graphics processing."
