New CPLDs Enable Cypress to Address Broad Spectrum of Communications Access Applications; Provide Multi-Dimensional Upgrade Path To Delta39K™ CPLDs
SAN JOSE, Calif., July 2, 2002 – Cypress Semiconductor (NYSE: CY) today announced availability of production volumes of the Quantum38K™ CPLDs, which address the high performance, high volume needs of access applications such as set-top boxes, and digital modems as well as enterprise network equipment such as switches, routers and storage systems. The Quantum38K family provides the industry's most cost-effective CPLD solutions, allowing system designers to take advantage of a CPLD's predictability, ease-of-use and speed in high volume applications without the overhead associated with more feature-rich CPLDs, such as Cypress's Delta39K family. It also brings the reprogrammable element to these applications, allowing vendor-specific customization or field upgrades necessitated by today's ever changing world of standards and protocols.
Quantum38K™ CPLDs are the first high-density CPLD family to enable a multidimensional migration path and pin-to-pin compatibility to Cypress's Delta39K CPLDs. For the first time, they offer a "feature migration" path in addition to standard "density" and "I/O count" migration paths. Therefore, as the design requirements of Quantum38K CPLD users grow more complex, the Delta39K CPLD becomes an ideal solution, offering denser memories; integrated Spread Aware™ Phase Locked Loops (PLL) for advanced clocking functions; high speed I/Os such as GTL+, HSTL I-IV, and SSTL-2/3; and innovative Self-Boot™ packaging, eliminating the need for an external boot PROM. The Delta39K CPLD family is widely used in network infrastructure equipment such as multi-service provisioning platforms, core routers and add-drop multiplexors.

Ranging from 512 to 1536 macrocells, Quantum38K integrates up to 48 Kbits of dual-ported communications memory with built-in arbitration logic. These devices also feature low power operation at 2.5V or 3.3V, Compact PCI hot-swap capability, and guaranteed pin-to-pin delays at every density. Offered in 30K, 50K, and 100K usable gates densities with up to 302 I/Os, Quantum38K is an ideal solution for all I/O-intensive applications.
Software Support
The Quantum38K devices are supported by Cypress's Warp™ design tools. Warp (currently available as Release 6.2) is a fully integrated programmable logic design environment that accepts VHDL, Verilog, Finite State Machine, and Schematic Entry as design input mechanisms. Warp also performs synthesis and fitting in a single step to speed the design process. In addition, Warp features an Architecture Explorer™ and Static Timing Analyzer to quickly pinpoint design fitting and critical path timing to aid in fast debugging and timing closure of logic designs. Warp also includes a fully capable simulation tool for design verification. All of the advanced features mentioned above make designing for the Quantum38K and Delta39K CPLD families, simple and efficient.
