MulticoreWare demonstrates high quality 4K 10-bit real-time HEVC video encoding with x265The world’s leading HEVC / H.265 encoder enables fast, efficient live Ultra High Definition video. Las Vegas, NV -- April 13, 2015 -- MulticoreWare is demonstrating to video professionals attending the 2015 NAB Show the latest version of the x265 HEVC encoder, optimized to enable high quality 4K video encoding with deep 10 bit color at frame rates exceeding 60 FPS. Movie studios, television broadcasters and video streaming services are ready to offer high quality Ultra High Definition content, encoded with the latest generation video codec, HEVC. While HEVC (also known as H.265) offers twice the compression efficiency of the previous standard (AVC/H.264), this compression efficiency requires many times the compute power to encode. These demands are further multiplied when using high color depth of 10 bits per color sample. Until now, to encode HEVC video in real-time many broadcast encoder system, developers have had to resort to brute-force solutions employing a cluster of processors running in expensive hardware configurations. The latest version of x265 enables real-time 4K encoding at bit rates up to 60 frames per second in a standard dual socket server, occupying only one standard rack unit. To achieve this benchmark, MulticoreWare has invested many thousands of man-hours optimizing every facet of the encoding process. Algorithms have been optimized to ensure high performance with minimal trade-offs in visual quality and compression efficiency. Compute-intensive functions have been optimized using the latest streaming SIMD instruction sets including Intel AVX2 instructions. All encoding operations have been highly parallelized to take full advantage of many-core processors. x265 is the HEVC encoder of choice for many leading video encoder manufacturers and video system operators, providing higher visual quality at any desired bit rate than competing H.265 encoders. x265 is available under the open source GNU GPL v2 license, providing many benefits over competing proprietary encoders. Wide adoption in popular media processing applications including FFMPEG and the VLC media player, and an open development model insure robust and reliable code. x265 is also available under a commercial license, without the copyleft restrictions of the GPL license, and with dedicated support. In Las Vegas, Nevada, this week, MulticoreWare will be demonstrating high quality real-time 4K 10 bit HEVC at frame rates in excess of 60 FPS on a dual Intel Xeon E5 v3 server, occupying only one standard rack unit. In addition, MulticoreWare will also demonstrate their high performance software HEVC decoder, UHDcode, available for x86, ARM and game consoles.
