Intel says it has no plans to license Wireless MMX
Intel says it has no plans to license Wireless MMX SAN JOSE -- Taking a different strategy in the mobile space, Intel Corp. said it has no plans to license its new, multimedia technology to other companies. On Tuesday, Intel announced a new set of instructions to its RISC-based processor architecture, dubbed XScale. The so-called Wireless MMX technology enables multimedia and graphics for XScale, a processor geared for mobile devices. Previously, MMX was aimed for x86-based PCs. At the same time, Intel licensed its MMX technology to its x86-based processor rival-Advanced Micro Devices Inc. David Rogers, marketing manager for Intel, said the company has no plans to license its Wireless MMX technology to competitors. Intel will not license the technology, because it wants to have a competitive advantage in the marketplace, he said.
