ARM Continues Partnership with the Market-Share Leader for 3G CDMA Wireless Solutions
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. and CAMBRIDGE, UK, – Oct. 15, 2002 – QUALCOMM Incorporated, pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and ARM [(LSE: ARM; Nasdaq: ARMHY)], the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC microprocessor solutions, today announced that QUALCOMM has licensed the new ARM1136J-S™ microprocessor core for use in advanced wireless voice and data devices. The announcement was made at the Microprocessor Forum in San Jose, Calif., and distinguishes QUALCOMM as one of the first ARM® Partners to use the new microprocessor core. Announced yesterday, the ARM1136J-S microprocessor core is the first offering based on the ARM11™ microarchitecture. QUALCOMM will use the ARM1136J-S core in future Mobile Station Modem (MSM) chipsets for next-generation mobile devices that support high-speed wireless voice and data applications. CDMA technology, which QUALCOMM pioneered for commercial use, is the world's fastest-growing standard for cellular communications. Today, CDMA2000 is enabling 3G wireless networks around the world.
The ARM1136J-S core will also enhance QUALCOMM's Launchpad™ suite of applications, including multimedia, position location and other advanced features.
