Xilinx Reduces Development Cost While Accelerating Programmable Systems Design With New Evaluation PlatformCompany delivers ML300 evaluation platform products for the industry's only FPGA with PowerPC™ processors and 3.125 Gigabit per second serial transceivers SAN JOSE, Calif., November 25, 2002 - Xilinx, Inc., (NASDAQ:XLNX) today announced the availability of its new ML300 evaluation platform to enable designers to accelerate the development of systems using the company's Virtex-II Pro™ FPGAs with immersed IBM® PowerPC processors and RocketIO™ 3.125 Gb/s serial transceivers. System, hardware, software and IP core designers now have access to a platform that can be used to design, develop, and debug complex systems. The ML300 evaluation platform provides hardware, software, debug and design tools, IP cores and an extensive set of reference designs. The evaluation platform allows designers to explore and implement new architectural ideas using the RocketIO serial transceivers and PowerPC processors in the Virtex-II Pro FPGA. For complete information about the Virtex-II Pro ML300 evaluation platform, visit www.xilinx.com/ml300 The Virtex-II Pro ML300 evaluation platform is a complete hardware and software development system that enables designers to create highly optimized and flexible programmable systems while reducing overall development costs. Designers can use the evaluation platform in many ways. Software engineers can develop software and device drivers using a complete "known-good" system, saving weeks of development time and avoiding costly and time-consuming re-spins. System architects can explore the tradeoffs of implementing various system level functions in hardware or software. Hardware engineers can work with software engineers to build custom IP cores using the infrastructure that the platform provides, greatly accelerating the design time for new functionality. The evaluation platform includes the ML300 hardware platform, Virtex-II Pro FPGA, power supply, cables, hardware development tools, debugging tools, intellectual property cores and device drivers, embedded software development tools, example operating systems, tutorials, documentation and several reference designs that can be implemented immediately. The bundle also ships with an 1 GB IBM MicroDrive with eight different configurations of hardware and software systems ranging from simple stand alone applications to real time operating systems that can be directly demonstrated on the ML300 evaluation platform. In addition, board support packages (BSPs) are available for both the Wind River Systems® VxWorks® real time operating system (RTOS) and the Linux® embedded operating system from MontaVista™ Software. "We are extremely pleased with the enthusiastic reception the Virtex-II Pro ML300 evaluation platform received at its first public demonstration at the Embedded Systems Conference last week in Boston," said Edward McGettigan, Director of Systems Engineering in the Advanced Products Development at Xilinx. "The evaluation platform demonstrates that Xilinx has working solutions today for designers who want to build next generation embedded systems that take advantage of the processing power and flexibility of our Virtex-II Pro FPGAs. There is no other complete reprogrammable platform on the market today that allows designers to build, debug and verify complex embedded processing systems." Price and Availability About Xilinx ####
