NewLogic Offers World's First IEEE 802.11 a/b/g CMOS multi-band WLAN Radio IPContinuing to set the trend in the Wireless LAN IP Market - First CMOS multi band radio now available and ready for delivery as chip level IP
Lustenau, Austria - July 10, 2003 - NewLogic, a leading supplier of intellectual property (IP) cores for wireless systems, today announced the availability and delivery of the world's first CMOS based multi band radio for the 802.11 WLAN market as IP.
The 802.11a/b/g WLAN Radio IP is the latest member of NewLogic's WiLD product family, which consists of all the elements required for a fully integrated single chip CMOS solution designed for high performance at the lowest cost.
The WiLD Radio is a 2.4GHz and 5GHz multi band WLAN CMOS radio macro for integration with standard WLAN ICs and ASICs. It also supports the extended frequency of 4.9 - 5.1GHz available in Japan and up to 5.8GHz for Europe and North America. The radio is ideally suited for use in cost sensitive designs and where low power consumption is a key factor to success. As the macro is also available in a proven production ready design it offers customers the opportunity to achieve a very fast time to market.
"Offering this CMOS based radio solution to the fast growing WLAN market was a great achievement by our engineering team and we are very proud to be able to provide such a solution as a licensable IP", said Hans Peter Metzler, President and CEO of NewLogic.
The radio is complemented by the WiLD Modems, WiLD MAC and Software to implement a complete IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLAN system. Thanks to system-level optimization, the WiLD system provides exceptional performance, to give greater range and higher effective data throughput. The components of the WiLD product line can be licensed separately or as a package.
The WiLD Radio is available as process independent architecture license or as hard macro on TSMC's 0.18µm RF CMOS process technology. With its Zero-IF architecture and the integration of the LNA (Low noice amplifier) and VCO, the Radio requires significantly less external components than comparable solutions and enables designs with lowest BoM on the market.
The WiLD Radio is offered with two baseband interfaces, either a classical analog I/Q data interface or a low pin count digital interface which includes the data converters integrated with the Radio.
"Our customers will be able to directly produce the Radio themselves as a discrete solution or integrate it together with MAC and Modem into SoC (System on Chip) designs. Customers will receive the full design database and all the necessary information to go into full production right away or to make any custom modifications", commented Uwe Hering, Sr. VP Sales and Marketing of NewLogic. "The very small chip size and the low power with extended power saving modes will give our customers a competitive edge in the market with a very fast time to market. Selected customers will receive samples in a 40 MLF package of the prototype IC next month."
