Synopsys Releases Synthesizable 6811 Microcontroller
Addition to the DesignWare Library Enables Pervasive Adoption of Industry-Standard 6811 for Embedded Designs MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., August 26, 2003 - Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNPS), the world leader in semiconductor design software, today announced the release of a synthesizable, configurable 6811 8-bit microcontroller into the DesignWare® Library. The DesignWare 6811 MacroCell is ideal for designers who need a drop-in, industry-standard embedded 8-bit microcontroller with broad software tool chain support. This solution should also appeal to those designers who are migrating from a discrete 6811 chip to a SoC implementation. The DesignWare 6811 is available to all DesignWare Library licensees at no additional cost, and follows the popular DesignWare 8051 MacroCell, the first 8-bit microcontroller released in the DesignWare Library.
"8-bit microprocessors are used in very large number of applications, including automotive, consumer, industrial, telecommunications and computer peripherals," said Jim Tully, chief analyst at Gartner Dataquest. "These have clearly become standard pieces of IP that are widely licensed for use in mission critical applications. However, they also require high levels of quality and tool support." To ensure quality and reusability, the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell was developed according to the guidelines spelled out in the Reuse Methodology Manual, the de-facto industry standard for reusable design methodologies. The DesignWare 6811 MacroCell has undergone extensive testing during the design process and has been synthesized in many different technologies. In addition, the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell has been extensively tested as part of the Bluetooth(TM) qualified DesignWare BlueIQ Core, which implements the full Bluetooth baseband controller and link manager using the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell. "The release of the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell demonstrates Synopsys' commitment to adding value to the DesignWare Library and delivering high-quality IP to our customers," said Guri Stark, vice president of marketing, Synopsys Solutions Group. "Our first 8-bit controller, the DesignWare 8051 MacroCell, was very well received by customers and has logged over 500 shipments. We expect to see the same quick adoption of the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell." Pricing and Availability
In addition to the DesignWare 6811 MacroCell, the DesignWare Library contains the most broadly used infrastructure IP including high-speed datapath generators, 8051 microcontroller, AMBA On-Chip Bus solution, complete memory portfolio, Star IP processors, verification models of the most popular bus and I/O standards and board level verification IP.
