Genesis Microchip Takes License for MIPS Technologies’ MIPS32 4KEc Core
MOUNTAIN VIEW and SAN JOSE, Calif., December 9, 2003 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS) and Genesis Microchip, a world leader in the development of image processing technologies, today announced that Genesis Microchip has taken a license for the MIPS32™ 4KEc™ core for use in its digital TV applications.
The 4KE family of processor cores delivers more than 1.35 Dhrystone MIPS/MHz of performance and provides many configurable options that allow designers to optimize the core for their applications. The result is lower overall system cost enabled by increased performance, and reduced die size and power consumption. The 4KEc core is designed for use in cost-sensitive digital consumer applications and contains a memory management unit for supporting multi-processing operating systems. "The 4KEc core from MIPS Technologies offers a high performance applications processor that matches the overall system-performance of our Digital TV processors," said Anders Frisk, executive vice president of Genesis Microchip. "The MIPS architecture is recognized as the architecture of choice for performance-driven applications and we are pleased that Genesis Microchip has chosen to license the MIPS32 4KEc core for its digital TV solutions," said Jack Browne, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. "We look forward to their continued success in this high-growth market."
