Oasis SiliconSystems and Quicklogic partner to develop QuickMIPS-based platforms for in-car infotainment systems
Leverages OASIS’ MOST® networking technology embedded in QuickMIPS devices
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – January 5, 2004 – QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq: QUIK), the inventor and pioneer of Embedded Standard Products (ESPs), today announced that it had entered into a partnership with OASIS SiliconSystems AG with the goal of leveraging silicon and software technology from both companies to release reference platforms optimized for a series of in-car telematics applications, including gateways and rear-seat infotainment systems. At the core of the architecture for each of these reference platforms is one of the QuickMIPS family of programmable system-on-a-chip (pSoC) devices and OASIS’ Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) networking devices. “OASIS’ MOST technology is quickly establishing itself as the de facto networking standard to distribute rich media content to systems inside a vehicle,” said Tom Hart, Chairman, President and CEO of QuickLogic. “We feel that by delivering proven solutions that tightly couple our respective silicon devices with software solutions, we will bring huge time-to-revenue and reduced development cost benefits to our mutual end customers.” “As we worked with market leaders that supply in-car electronics systems, it became clear that many were struggling with the time to market and inflexibility challenges provided by the ASIC chip model”, said Herbert Hetzel, President and CEO of OASIS SiliconSystems and Administrator of MOST Cooperation, “We see QuickLogic’s programmable SoC devices as providing the best solution to these two challenges.” The initial deliverable out of this co-engineering and co-marketing agreement is a reference design for rear seat infotainment appliances. The design is expected to be available for preliminary customer demonstrations in Q1 2004. MOST: The Automotive Industry’s Networking Technology Standard Based on a fiber-optic bus, MOST has emerged as the automotive industry’s high-speed digital networking standard. It serves as the backbone technology of in-car infotainment systems. The use of the MOST networking technology permits carmakers and suppliers to easily add a host of multimedia devices, such as CD players, AM/FM radios, navigation systems, cell phones, and in-car PCs, as modular functions in the automotive environment, while meeting the specific requirements of any vehicle. About QuickLogic QuickLogic Corporation (Nasdaq: QUIK) began developing the Embedded Standard Product (ESP) architecture in 1998. ESPs deliver the guaranteed performance and lower cost of standard semiconductor products, coupled with the flexibility and time-to-market benefits of programmable logic. QuickLogic's ViaLink® metal-to-metal interconnect technology enables high performance ESPs and is the foundation of the company's core FPGA products. Founded in 1988, the company is located at 1277 Orleans Drive, Sunnyvale, CA 94089-1138.
