Elixent partners with Accent to demonstrate its reconfigurable technologyBristol, England, 5 January 2004: Elixent, the leader in reconfigurable semiconductor IP, has partnered with Italy-based Accent Srl to successfully develop a demonstration system for D-Fabrix, its reconfigurable algorithm processing (RAP) technology. Accent is one of the world's leading integrated circuit (IC) design houses, ranked sixth in Europe by market research from Future Horizons. Using D-Fabrix, the company can now develop SoC (system-on-chip) devices for its customers. Working in partnership, Accent designed a complex and expandable demonstration system for D-Fabrix based on Elixent's initial requirements. The system, which was delivered to time and budget, shows live video being processed on a reconfigurable platform. It enables Elixent to highlight the performance, flexibility and power consumption advantages of its RAP technology to electronic product manufacturers. "Thanks to Accent, we can effectively show multimedia applications and demonstrate the value of our industry-leading technology to our customers," said Kenn Lamb, CEO of Elixent. "Accent understood our objectives and delivered fully tested boards in a timely manner. They have made a valuable contribution to our success." Massimo Vanzi, General Manager at Accent, commented: "Working with Elixent has enabled us to prove our design services and expertise on a new platform technology in a growing segment of the semiconductor industry. We are pleased to be partners with the leader in the reconfigurable market." D-Fabrix is the lowest power reprogrammable solution for implementing algorithm processing in SoC devices. It uses reconfigurable arrays which enable functionality to be added or changed post-fabrication, enabling bugs to be fixed or even the whole chip to be customised. About Accent Accent Srl is a joint venture incorporated in 1993 between STMicroelectronics (51%) and Cadence Design Systems (49%). Accent is a leading provider of electronic design services and platform-level intellectual property (IP) in the field of multimedia, telecom, automotive applications and low-power general computing. Accent's offerings include System-on-Chip Design, Silicon Implementation, Analogue and Mixed Signal Design, and IP Reuse services. Additional information is available at http://www.accent.it About Elixent Elixent is the leader in reconfigurable semiconductor IP, a technology that provides users with the ability to change the function of a chip even whilst in use. D-Fabrix, the company's patented reconfigurable algorithm processing (RAP) technology, provides ASIC designers with a flexible alternative to fixed function chips but without consuming the level of power normally associated with programmable technologies. This combination is of particular benefit to companies producing electronic products for imaging and communications applications in consumer and industrial markets. The low power consumption makes D-Fabrix particularly attractive for mobile and battery powered products. Visit http://www.elixent.com for more information.
