MIPS Technologies’ Customers Announce Design Wins, Strategic Partnership Initiatives And New Technologies for High-Growth Embedded Market Segments

Advanced Micro Devices
AMD announced that it would combine its MIPS-Based Alchemy™ Au1100™ processor with the software ecosystem of Mediabolic, Inc. to create platforms for mobile entertainment products. The complete package of hardware and software is designed to enhance the user experience by managing entertainment data, including video, audio and picture files, regardless of where they are stored on a home network.
ATI Technologies
ATI introduced the MIPS-Based XILLEON™ 210VC, which the company claims is the world's first digital terrestrial and Cable Plug-and-Play Television-on-Chip. The company also stated that all the essential technology that goes into making a North American or Korean digital TV - the reception front-end and the video decode and display back-end - now are available from ATI in this solution.
Broadcom
Broadcom announced it is entering the consumer television market with the BCM7038, which Broadcom believes is the industry's first single-chip, dual-channel HD video/audio/graphics and personal video recording (PVR) solution for digital televisions, cable set-top boxes, satellite receivers and HD-DVD players. The BCM7038 enables consumer electronics manufacturers to deliver HDTV solutions with superior picture and sound quality at consumer price values. Broadcom also announced that it is offering XTV™ compliant chips for PVR applications.
Philips
Royal Philips Electronics launched what it claims is the world's first DVD+R/+RW and hard disk drive (HDD) combination semiconductor reference design. The MIPS-Based Nexperia™ Home complete reference design will enable DVD recorder manufacturers that do not have in-house DVD+RW/HDD chip solutions to introduce DVD+R/+RW video recorders with integrated HDD in 2004, in time for the next holiday buying season.
QuickLogic Corporation
QuickLogic announced that it partnered with OASIS SiliconSystems AG with the goal of leveraging silicon and software technology from both companies to release reference platforms optimized for a series of in-car telematics applications, including gateways and rear-seat infotainment systems. At the core of the architecture for each of these reference platforms is one of the QuickMIPS™ family of programmable system-on-a-chip devices and OASIS' Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) networking devices.
ViXS Systems
ViXS announced several new partners and customers that have integrated ViXS' MIPS-Based XCode II video processor and Matrix wireless chip into their next generation displays and media gateway products. The design wins include Arcadyan (Philips/Accton), Daewoo Electronics, Gemtek Technologies, Nexgen Mediatech (Chi-Mei Corporation) and Toshiba. Collectively, these deals highlight the demand for highly efficient processing and encoding technologies that enable consumers to wirelessly send, display and record video to various devices over a standards-based 802.11 network.
Zoran Corporation
Zoran announced that its Generation9 family of DTV IC's is now in volume production with four of the world's leading digital television and set-top box manufacturers, Funai, JVC, Pioneer, and Sony. Also, Zoran announced that Toshiba is using the Generation9 at the heart of its powerful new Advanced Digital Media Server platform, the first home server to combine all the major capabilities of home electronics and PCs in one powerful server product for the digital home.
