Flash Microcontrollers Supported by Data I/O Turnkey Programming SolutionSprint and PS300 Platforms Open Up Award-Winning MCUs to Thousands of End Users SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 2004 -- ZiLOG, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZILG), a leading provider of integrated 8-bit microcontrollers, today announced that its award-winning Z8Encore!(R) and eZ80Acclaim!(TM) 8-bit Flash microcontroller (MCU) families are now fully supported by device programming pioneer Data I/O's (Nasdaq:DAIO) Sprint(R) and PS300(R) programming systems. The Sprint platform is a family of single socket and gang desktop device programmers used in programming centers and electronic manufacturing companies, and the PS300 series are automated offline programming/handling systems for higher volume requirements. The support of the Z8Encore! and eZ80Acclaim! Flash Microcontrollers on the Sprint and PS300 platforms is an important development as it offers customers turnkey solutions for programming ZiLOG devices at the development and prototyping phases of the product cycle and for volume manufacturing. "As one of the originators in device programming, Data I/O is a leader in its field," said Mike Gershowitz, ZiLOG director of MicroDevices marketing. "The support of the eZ80Acclaim! and Z8Encore! families on the Sprint and PS300 platforms makes designing and programming using ZiLOG's high-quality MCUs a cost-effective, high-quality proposition for thousands of Data I/O end-users and opens up a whole range programming choices to them. It also means they will benefit from additional leverage from their investment in Data I/O equipment." Bruce Rodgers, director of semiconductor relations and marketing, Data I/O, added: "Users of microcontrollers are among our larger user groups and growing quickly. This important support development for ZiLOG devices provides our users with greater application development potential for their security, industrial controls, and consumer products applications." ZiLOG MCUs are embedded in over a billion end-use devices worldwide in applications as diverse as consumer electronics and appliances, building control, factory automation, financial transaction processing, computer peripherals and the automotive after-market. The eZ80Acclaim! Flash MCUs share the same CPU core as the popular eZ80 microprocessors, yet also offer on-chip integrated memories (up to 256KB Flash and 16KB SRAM), core speeds up to 50MHz and an on-chip Ethernet MAC (eZ80F91 only). The Z8Encore! family offers up to 64KB of Flash memory with performance further enhanced by ZiLOG's register-to-register architecture, featuring a 20MHz CPU core, up to 4KB of RAM, and a 3-channel DMA controller.
