MIPS Technologies Announces Availability of Hard Intellectual Property CoresOffering of MIPS32® 4Kc® and 4KEc™ Hard IP Cores Extends Reach of MIPS® Architecture MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 6, 2004 - MIPS Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer and business applications, today announced its product offering now includes hard intellectual property (IP) cores. Augmenting an already robust product line of synthesizable, 32-bit cores, this offering of MIPS32® 4Kc® and 4KEc™ hard IP cores enables a cost-effective, low-risk, and easy way for budget-conscience startups, fabless semiconductor companies, and system OEMs to integrate the high-performance MIPS® architecture into digital consumer devices like set-top boxes, digital cameras, and digital televisions. Currently, a 175MHz 4KEc™ hard core in .18µ TSMC and a 190MHz 4Kc® hard core in .18µ SMIC are available for direct licensing from the company. Built using the latest design methodologies, standard cell libraries and memories, these cores represent state-of-the-art hard IP. The small area of the hard core realizes significant cost savings for users and stands out from cores in the equivalent performance class. Coupled with a robust development environment these hard cores dramatically reduce SOC implementation time. "Jump starting an SOC design with a high-performance, hard IP core like the 4Kc or 4KEc cores offer tremendous value to customers by reducing design time and expense," said Russ Bell, vice president of marketing at MIPS Technologies. "Not only do our customers reap the benefit of utilizing proven technology and performance, they are able to leverage the vibrant ecosystem made up of over 100 million dollars development tools and software supporting the MIPS architecture." About the 4KEc Hard IP Core (in 0.18 TSMC CL018G process) About the 4Kc Hard IP Core (in 0.18 SMIC process) Availability MIPS Technologies has partnered with two design centers, CMSC and Socle, either of which can assist licensees in the development of a MIPS-Based™ SOC or with the merging of a MIPS hard IP core into a licensees' SOC in preparation for manufacturing. Licensing of the hard IP core is done directly through MIPS Technologies. About Merging Partners CMSC and Socle Technology Corp. Socle Technology Corp. provides professional SOC platform solutions and services. The company supports the 4K and 4KE families of cores and offers a MIPS-Based, configurable and pre-verified SOC platform solution from specification to RTL development.
